The very first Turbo Magazine I remember picking up featured Jay Leno and his Ford Shogun. The Shogun was an actual model produced by Ford, to compete with the growing Japanese sport compact car market. They entrusted, subsidiary company Mazda, to design and produce the vehicle. The car was basically a crummy little Ford Festiva (we all know how crummy those Festivas are) on steroids: wide-body kit, turbo charged, mid-engine RWD. Jay's was extra special though, mainly because of the NOS kit he installed, among other modifications. Definitely a looker. Whether you're into American muscle, exotics, or Japanese imports, the Shogun will always have a place in the heart of any car enthusiast.

Support this man. Believe it or not, The Gaslamp Killer was the main reason I started DJing. And no, this wasn't just a couple years ago.

Back in 2000, GLK or DJ Willow, as he was known back then, put the stamp on my interest to DJ. He used to spin at a bi-weekly, LRG hosted event called El-Phunk. Held at an Orange County venue called MVP (now called Club Bleu), the night always had talented DJ's and Emcees performing. One night, I came by to see the A-Team (Aceyalone + Abstract Rude) and as everyone was waiting for them to perform, Willow was on the tables in a tiny side room filled with pool tables. He was killing it, dropping rare samples and cutting up records like there was no tomorrow. I nearly lost my mind when he dropped The Charmels - C.R.E.A.M. sample. I've seen a whole lot of DJ's spin, but something about his style back then, it was truly different. After that night, I wanted to be a DJ.

Being in Seattle for about a month now, I can't help but talk about the differences between California and Washington. Besides the difference in weather and temperature, here are some interesting facts.

1. In WA, hard liquor is only sold at state operated liquor stores, so beer is drink of choice (i.e. Mt Rainer or PBR)

2. No state income tax in Washington = more $$$ in my pocket.

3. WA is super green, compost bins are everywhere. Trash + Recycle + Compost bins are at most restaurants.

4. No dummies. 54% of residents in Seattle who are 25 and older, hold at least a Bachelor's Degree.

5. Public transportation holds down Seattle's logistics.

Urban Outfitters have always had a bad stigma for stealing or "recreating" other companies work. Now they take a different approach to their big shark mentality. Not sure who they recently hired on their buying team, but they now carry some brands you would never thought they would carry. If you asked me, they're getting a bit Opening Ceremonyish...
